Research Fields

The IFAS is the Department of Applied Statistics at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. Therefore the focus of the research program at the IFAS lies on developing and applying statistical methods, that are revelevant and important for the social and economic sciences. On the one hand side, new tools for statistical inference are developed, like Markov chain Monte Carlo methods for various challenging statistical problems such as state space modeling of discrete-valued time series or model-based clustering of many short time series using mixture models. On the other hand, these tools are applied in cooperations with economists, marketers, or social scientists to many different socio-economic data sets.

Instructions for the database's use:

There are three possibilities to find the department's publications in the Fodok-database :

• Click on the link "Suche". In the field appearing on the next page you can enter the desired name or simply "Institut für Angewandte Statistik". You have furthermore the possibility to search in "Publikationen" (publications), "Forschungsprojekten" (research projects), "Personen" (people) or "Forschungseinheiten" (departments) in just clicking on the desired boxes. Per default all boxes are marked. The search results can be sorted in alphabetical (Alphabetisch) or chronological (Chronologisch) order or sorted by type.
• Following the Link "Forschungseinheiten" you get to the overlook of the University's faculties. The link "Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät" provides an overview of all departments of our faculty. In the category "untergeordnete Forschungseinehieten" there are three links for our department: "Institut für Angewandte Statistik", "Abteilung für Technische Statistik" und "Abteilung für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsstatistik", where you can find all publications.
• A further possibility is provided by the link "Wissenschaftsgebiete". Choose point 57. "Angewandte Statistik, Sozialstatistik" and click on "Publikationen" either in point 5701. or 5705.
